Among the Trees, Entwining Worlds

Probably the first illustration to showcase my three main TTRPG characters' human forms at the same time. Likewise, it's also my first to show any hint of fire gal Adhara/Kaguya's part-Mesoamerican roots, and her mate Guórén's pact with a primordial being that resides there. Okuni is still Okuni, but her personal conflict is a story for another day.
.
The inky smoke contains a slightly modified version of the jaguar (bʼalam) glyph from the Maya script. Adhara's true name is actually Shield Serpent in Yucatec Maya and Nahua, but of course, I still call her "Adhara" out of habit and fondness.

🎨 NOTES ON THE SUBJECT 🎨
.
If you've tried to dive deep into the iceberg of Mesoamerican mythos, there is A LOT that we do not know (owing to the circumstances of conquest). Deity figures may have multitudes of regional counterparts, and even the Aztec/Mexica were known to integrate Maya and Olmec gods into their pantheon. As such, it's quite challenging to integrate the concepts of Quetzalcoatl / Gukumatz / Kukulkan / et al and Tezcatlipoca/ Tohil / K'awiil / et al. Even after plodding through numerous books and online articles, the task hasn't gotten easier.

Any new knowledge is VERY much appreciated, and greatly encouraged, so I can hopefully portray the subject matter more accurately and with respect to the original sources. ❤️
