In Philippine mythology, Makiling is a diwata (a nature spirit) believed to reside in the mountain of the same name. The mountain's shape was said to evoke her reclining form. Despite attempts to subjugate her or change her name, she retained her untamable nature: helpful or vengeful depending on how one interacted with her mountain domain.
